Conjuration of Light Crusader Dungeon Guide

Introduction

Holy Fire is a support build for group activities that enhances your entire group's damage with automatic critical hits from Holy Banner and the incredibly powerful holy fire damage from Conjuration of Light. Draw and Quarter also serves as a scouting and support tool. Finally, use Spinning Shield to eradicate bosses quickly!

This build guide assumes you have a Character at Level 60. Check out the Crusader 1-60 Leveling Guide and Complete Leveling Guide if you're not there yet!

Dungeon Support Build - Holy Fire

Punish (Primary) - Use for filler damage when all other skills are on cooldown. The ultimate is also useful for single target damage on bosses.

Draw and Quarter - Hold down your Primary while moving to deal extra damage and trigger Primary secondaries and family bonuses. Use for mobility in this build.

Conjuration of Light - If your party is in range, this puts a buff on them with Justice Without Favor. That buff does extremely close-ranged AoE damage from each party member.

Holy Banner - Does a large group buff centered on your character, boosting your party member's Critical Hit Chance by 100%. Focus on keeping your entire party in the area of effect rather than purely doing damage with other abilities. Sometimes staying alive and allowing other party members to deal damage safely at range in this effect is smarter than trying to deal damage yourself.

Spinning Shield - Deal insane amounts of single target damage by dropping your shields on top of bosses and mini bosses, especially when Holy Banner is up.

4/6 Vithu's Urges and 2/6 Grace of the Flagellant is our recommended Set for Crusader, enabling you to better support your team and augmenting your important AoE damage.

Gameplay

  1. Use Draw and Quarter to speed through areas and deal damage to most enemies.
  2. When your group is together, use Holy Banner, then Conjuration of Light to blast down enemy groups quickly.
  3. On bosses, use Holy Banner, then Conjuration of Light, and then all 3 charges of Spinning Shield. Watch as the boss dies from the insane damage!

Legendary and Normal Gems

Legendary Gems provide incredible attribute bonuses and unique effects. They are found as a reward after completing an Elder Rift that is enhanced with a Legendary Crest. Many of them are also crafted using Runes and Platinum at the Jeweler in Westmarch.

Starter Legendary Gems
  1. Everlasting Torment deals incredible damage over time after a Critical Hit. For a simple 1 star Legendary Gem, this packs a punch.
  2. Fervant Fang does fantastic single target damage. It can easily be acquired from the Battle Pass, without relying on luck from crests.
  3. Berserker's Eye provides increased damage in all cases, if you're willing to take more damage. This tradeoff works well for this build.
  4. Lightning Core does direct damage to an enemy group, often wiping them out in the process. While the damage is infrequent, it's useful for taking down larger targets.
  5. Seled's Weakening gives a frequent damage boost anytime you kill elites, making it have natural synergy with this build.
  6. Chained Death gives a solid damage boost, especially in AoE situations.
Best in Slot Legendary Gems
  1. Blood-Soaked Jade is the best Legendary Gem in the game. It provides massive damage and movement speed in a single package.
  2. Seeping Bile has poison that is devastating in large densities. It also slows enemies affected at higher ranks.
  3. Blessing of the Worthy is an incredible choice for any melee class. Any damage taken activates devastating damage every 15 seconds, obliterating anything nearby.
  4. Howler's Call blasts your enemies from incredible range and is triggered by any Primary, including Draw and Quarter. This adds an important ranged attack to your arsenal that triggers off your already stacked rotation.
  5. Frozen Heart provides great damage reduction vs ranged enemies. It's hard to beat percentage based damage reduction!
  6. Chip of Stone Flesh has a chance to petrify a target and gives you a damage boost on top of it. Petrifying enemies can keep you alive in a Challenge Rift or secure a kill in PvP, making this an incredible choice.

Normal Gems

  1. Tourmaline is better than Ruby, since Damage is better than Life.
  2. Sapphire is better than Aquamarine, since Armor Penetration (Critical Hit Damage) is better than Armor. Don't completely ignore armor though. Crusader's heavy block chance makes it more useful than other classes, so use at least 2 Aquamarine the Armor boost.
  3. Citrine is equal to Topaz, since both Potency and All Resistance are underwhelming stats. Simply use the highest leveled Yellow Gems you've obtained.

Attribute Priorities

Primary Attributes

The Crusader's main stat is Strength, giving +0.3 Damage per point. All other things equal, use gear with Strength to maximize the damage you deal. Fortitude is also important early on because it gives you Armor Penetration (and therefore Critical Hit Chance), but becomes less important later due to diminishing returns on how much Critical Hit Chance you can gain.

Crusader's worst stat is Intelligence because it only gives +1 CR. If possible, don't use it.

  1. Strength +1 CR and +0.3 Damage.
  2. Fortitude +1 CR, +0.1 Armor, and +0.1 Armor Penetration. Armor increases your chance to Block, which mitigates 20% of incoming damage. This is a nice defensive boost, especially when pushing Challenge Rifts or Helliquary bosses. Armor Penetration gives Critical Hit Damage, which is nice if you already have a high Critical Hit Chance.
  3. Vitality +1 CR and +3 Life. It never hurts to have more life, especially for end game pushes and PvP. Vitality is the best attribute after the damage-dealing ones.
  4. Willpower +1 CR, +0.1 Potency, and +0.1 Resistance. Potency increases the duration of harmful effects on enemies, while Resistance lowers the duration of harmful effects on you from enemies. Willpower may play a larger role in the future, but currently it is never prioritized.
  5. Intelligence +1 CR. Gives nothing extra and is therefore the worst attribute.

Special Attributes

Because the total amount of primary attributes is so important, you rarely prioritize special attributes on gear. Still, several special attributes can make a difference, here are some of the best ones you can find:

  1. Critical Hit Chance to proc Everlasting Torment attack speed effect at Rank 6.

Bonus Attributes, Family Bonus, and Reforging

Family bonuses are hard to change so picking a powerful option is important. Here are some of the best Family Bonuses available for the Crusader:

  1. Tremor Stone provides additional stuns and damage in a melee radius, giving incredible utility in PvE or PvP.
  2. Vengeance Stone is an alternative option for those more concerned with raw PvE damage or with Primary Attack focused builds.

Awakening

Focus on Awakening your gear with 1 star Gems first (Everlasting Torment, Berserker's Eye, Ca'arsen's Invigoration etc.). We recommend Awakening your items in this order:

1. Shoulders

  • Sivket's Advantage - Draw and Quarter cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Faith Ascendant - Falling Sword damage increased by 10%.
  • Wind-Blessed Pauldrons - Conjuration of Light cooldown decreased by 10%.

2. Legs

  • Bladed Jambeau - Draw and Quarter damage increased by 10%.
  • Cavalier's Courtwear - Draw and Quarter damage increased by 10%.

3. Off-Hand

  • Pavise of Ten Wings - Spinning Shield damage increased by 10%.
  • Sinkhole Cross - Spinning Shield cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Bonebearer - Shield Glare damage increased by 10%.

4. Chest

  • Besieger - Draw and Quarter cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Springback Chain - Spinning Shield cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Justice Without Favor - Conjuration of Light damage increased by 10%.

5. Main-Hand

  • Tumult - Falling Sword cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Little Lance - Falling Sword damage increased by 10%.
  • Karawan's Catch - Sweep Attack damage increased by 10%.

6. Head

  • Redeemer's Mettle - Shield Glare damage increased by 10%.

Paragon

For Paragon Points, always prioritize Damage and Life. Remember to activate the Paragon Tree that you want to use. Vanquisher is the best for damage, and Treasure Hunter can be used for a small Experience boost. Avoid activating the Gladiator Tree since its active nodes only work in PvP.
