General Player vs Player Strategy

Introduction

Diablo Immortal reintroduced a popular concept in ARPG's a Player vs Player (PvP) combat. You can fight in teams up to 4 against each other for epic loot in the Ancient Area or participate with up to 16 players in the Battlegrounds! The Rite of Exile in another PvP event with 10 simultaneous 8 vs 8 battles between the Shadows and the Immortals. In this post we will cover how to fight other players and give a brief first look into the mechanics and strategies.

General

Here are some general facts about PvP combat in Diablo Immortal:

  • PvP is only possible in certain areas, you can't hostile or kill players in the open world
  • Players can use the same group invite feature as in the open world to team up
  • You only benefit from your party member's buffs if you are in the same 4-player group
  • You don't have access to your Health Potions, instead you can use Bandages ONLY while outside of combat
  • Some stats like crowd control effects are reduced while in PvP combat
  • Balanced 1 vs 1 fights with equal Gear and Paragon Level take around 10 - 30 seconds
  • Immortal Crown buffs can be used.

Strategies

A common strategy during the BETA was to switch your equipment and skill specifically for the PvP events. Players also tend to group up very early on with other high Paragon Players and preferably play ranged builds to kite and kill other Players without taking any significant damage.
For the Ancient Arena it is always best to team up rather than be alone, just show up and party with whoever is there and fight together until the end!
In the Battlegrounds, it is best to focus on the objectives instead of just killing of players.
During the Rite of Exile you want to preselect teams to fight and agree on a strategy to set your faction up for victory!

Mechanics

Some stats are reduced in PvP to lower damage output and prevent instant kills or permanent stun-locks. Here is what we know so far:

  • Your Offense and Defense Rating are scaled down to 10% of their original value
  • Block Chance is reduced to 20%
  • Critical Hit Chance is a flat 10% against players
  • Harmful effect durations, like freeze and stun, are reduced by 50% on players
  • Players with high Offense Rating can kill opponents with far less Defense Rating rather quickly

Keep in mind Diablo Immortal is still in BETA - things will change!
There were almost no coordinated Player vs Player flights during the BETA. People mostly just brawled without much communication or team play. With the launch of Diablo Immortal, this will change and sophisticated strategies and team tactics will emerge! We will keep you updated here as Diablo Immortal development continues. Stay tuned!
